At the PLANZ gallery booth, works by Alexander Zhernokluev from his new painting cycle, tentatively titled “Balance of Power,” will be on display. Common features of the series include large-format canvases — characteristic for the artist; an exploration of pattern; the contrast between human corporeality and the rigid constructivism of the spaces in which his figures reside; an engagement with themes of fragility, vulnerability, and the sub-personalities of human nature; and the motif of technological aggression: living flesh is deconstructed into pixels, the painted image acquires digital characteristics, and then dissolves into the canvas’s expanse. All works in the cycle will be shown to the public for the first time.
